This marks Tracy’s third collaboration with Mr. Nachtrieb, directing Mulitplex for KML's Bruno’s Island Play Festival 2003 and Colorado at the Summer Plays Festival New York City. Other directing credits include work with: Theatre Rhinoceros, Abydos Theater, City Summer Opera, Lunatique Fantastique, Stephen Pelton Dance Theater, Word for Word, Playground Festivals 2002 and 2005, Oakland Public Theatre, Z Space, Killing My Lobster, and. Upcoming projects include Reckless by Craig Lucas, and her continuing collaboration as a Director with Composer Carla Lucero on her new opera, JUANA which will premiere in 2007.

Melanie Case (Pam)

Melanie is delighted, jazzed, and amazed to be in the world premiere production of Hunter Gatherers after appearing in the first readings of the play at Teatro de la Esperanza and as a part of the SF State’s Hothouse series at The Marsh in 2005. A jane-of-all-trades, Melanie works as an actor, comedian, writer, director, producer, and teacher. She just finished doing a marvelously successful run of Bright Ideas at Shotgun Players. She is a company and board member of Killing My Lobster and has been seen in many productions. She also directed KML Kisses A Toad in March 2005 at the Yugen/Noh Space. She recently appeared in a reading of Janet Allard’s Vrooommm!!! at Theatreworks. Melanie would like to thank Peter for writing this amazing play, Tracy for being a great director, and Paul for believing in her. She also thanks her family, friends, and community for their support. Alexis Lezin (Wendy)

Hunter Gatherers marks Alexis Lezin’s return to the stage following the birth of her son, Solomon. In her previous life, she appeared regularly on stage, screen, and television. She hosted three seasons of Independent View, a series for PBS about independent films and filmmakers. She has provided the voice for dozens of commercials, documentaries, and animated pieces. She last appeared on stage as Red in the world premiere of Denis Johnson’s Psychos Never Dream. Theater credits with Campo Santo also include: Marie Fortune in world premiere of John Steppling’s Wheel of Fortune, Jan in Denis Johnson’s Soul of a Whore, Marigold Cassandra in Denis Johnson’s Shoppers Carried by Escalators into the Flames and Hellhound on My Trail, and Skinhead Girl in Naomi Iizuka’s Polaroid Stories. She last appeared at the Thick House as Olivia in Encore Theatre's long running hit, Five Flights. Film credits include: Laurie Schmidt’s Sleep Come Free Me (winner of audience choice awards in San Francisco, Berlin, and Austin), Trinh T. Minh Ha’s feature Night Passage, and in Eoin B. Moore‘s feature film called When Pigs Fly.

 

John Kovacevich (Tom)

A veteran lobster writer and performer, John appeared in the KML shows Tales of a Lonely Planet, The Bruno's Island New Plays Festival, GOOOAL!!!, and KML Goes to the Polls, and performed with the lobsters at Upright Citizens Brigade in both New York and Los Angeles. He is a member of the main stage company at BATS Improv, where he also serves as executive director. There is a pretty good chance that he’s in your company’s safety, sales, or sexual harassment training video. Jon Wolanske (Richard)

Jon Wolanske is thrilled to be a part of the world premiere of "Hunter Gatherers." For SFSU's Greenhouse series, he originated the role of Richard in "Hunter Gatherers" and the role of Ron in Nachtrieb's "Colorado" (both productions directed by Tracy Ward). A core writer, performer, director, and web producer for Killing My Lobster since the year 2000, Jon was most recently seen in Word for Word Theater Company's world premiere production of Daniel Handler's "4 Adverbs." Special thanks to Big T and the entire Wolanske family.

 

The Crew

Producer - Sally Garbarini

Sally Garbarini joined forces with Killing My Lobster as a producer in 2002. Besides the lobsters, she works locally with BATS Improv and New Langton Arts. She is especially thrilled to be involved with Hunter Gatherers and wants to thank her family and friends for all of their support.

 

Set Designer - Erik Flatmo

Erik Flatmo designed projections for Hunter Gatherers at the Bay Area Playwrights Festival last summer. He has been involved with Killing My Lobster since the early days when he designed the set for KML Throws a Hissy in 1998, and most recently KML Takes a Cruise. Locally, he has designed sets for the Magic Theater, Joe Goode Performance Group and A.C.T. Conservatory. HIs New York credits includes work with The Civilians, The Kitchen, Danspace, The Play Company and The Drama League. He has designed premieres of work by playwrights Brooke Berman, Gary Sunshine, Julia Jordan, Anne Washburn, Zakiyyah Alexander, and John Fisher. Upcoming projects include work at the San Francisco Opera Center, Marin Theater Company and the set for Stanford's Restoration Comedy, written and directed by Amy Freed. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama and teaches set design at Stanford University.

 

Light Designer - Chris Studley

Chris is excited to be designing with Killing My Lobster for the first time.
He has designed lighting for over 30 professional productions in the Bay Area over the last 5 years for companies such as The Aurora Theatre, The Magic Theatre, Campo Santo + Intersection for the Arts, Encore Theatre Company, the A.C.T. Conservatory, Fools Fury, The SF Playhouse, and the Pacific Alliance Stage Company. Chris is also involved in lighting and production of film and video and is a Journeyman in IATSE local 16.

Stage Manager - Sarah Aguirre

With a BA in directing from the University of Northern Colorado, Sarah also has several years experience as a professional scenic artist working with Opera San Jose, Marin Shakespeare Company and the Aurora theatre in Berkeley. She began stage-managing for Killing My Lobster during last summer's production of The Wonderful World of Science. "The irony is that I owe a lot of my mental health to this zany little theatre company."

 

Sound Designer - David Sophia Siegel

David has done sound design and written music and the occasional comedy sketch for a variety of Lobster shows running all the way back to the innocent year of 2004, including his most notable appearance as the Musical Director for 2005's "The Wonderful World of Science." His other credits include music composition with One Kind Theatre and a variety of upcoming projects, including work with the Boxcar Theatre this summer. When he is not being theatrical, he leads the charge in his fancy rock band, The Boneless Children Foundation, in relation to whom he also writes a webcomic, both of which you can find out more about at www.bonelesschildren.com.
